All the local guys that could do skim coat jobs with blue board are basically gone now. I'm going through this now on my current project. In general - the quality of drywall jobs is nothing like it was. Joint compound (also known as drywall mud or simply mud) is comprised mainly of gypsum dust and can be bought in pre-mixed tubs, like spackle. plaster works best as you can get it smooth. lines in photocopies See patterns plaster of paris See patching plaster. 1 I actually met a guy the other day at hobby lobby who's into trains He says he likes joint compound (the redi made kind) over plaster of paris, so I thought I'd try some with some styrophome (sp) as he said do it. Spackling compound dries faster than joint compound and shrinks less, making it ideal for patching small to medium-size holes and dents in drywall or plaster. It all depends on the final results needed - when fixing a plaster wall. 16, 66 finishing compound, 24, 67 first aid, 16 flux, 20, 57 applying. But they would still use plaster for the final coat. They would often use the fast set to do major patching when I would hire them independent of a full drywall job. ![]() They also had older finish guys - they could also do plaster. That was for speed jobs with lots of people flying through a project (that's how it was explained) They never wanted anything they had to mix. Plaster of Paris has a smoother texture than joint compound, which is more granular in form. just to tell me what the guys would need "material wise "for doing my project as side job. ![]() ![]() The easy sand in my opinion - is too soft.įor years when I was doing my projects I had a union drywall company that would actually send out the company estimator. They still sell the really hard stuff - but the other is a bit more forgiving. but, you had to be careful as it was almost impossible to sand.
